Modern transport systems are complex systems that include road, rail, water, air and pipeline transportation. The System involves various modes of transport, transport infrastructure construction, the use of means of transport, transportation planning and management. This course introduce the theory and method of transportation and distribution systematically from four aspects, which are concepts and principles, operation modes, optimization methods, organization and management. Through the combination of theory and practice studying, students could master the basic theory on transportation and distribution and apply the knowledge to design reasonable transportation and distribution plan. Students would get familiar with the whole process and possess the practical ability. This course focuses on the survey of urban transport, data collection and analysis, traffic flow theory, road capacity planning and management. This course also introduces transport modes and tools, transport infrastructure, transport planning, environment and safety, and new technology applications. The experiments of this course strengthens the students' understanding of knowledge, mastering the methods and tools. And they can applying the methods and tools to the actual transportation system, so as to improve their comprehensive and innovative ability.
