Zhenghuan Hu received his B.Eng in Metallurgical Machinery from the Beijing Institute of Iron and Steel Industry in 1956. He is now a Professor at the School of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Science and Technology Beijing (formerly, Beijing Institute of Iron and Steel Industry). He has been working in the field of part rolling technologies and promoting their industrialization for more than sixty years. His research interests focus on the development and application of cross wedge rolling and skew rolling. Parts rolling technologies show the higher production efficiency, less raw material waste and better forming quality than machining and forging. Prof. Hu is the main pioneer and founder of the innovative parts rolling technologies in China, and his outstanding contribution for this technological field was recorded in the Selection of Science and Technology Achievements of the PRC (1979-1988). He devotes himself to changing the traditional manufacturing processes and developing the new rolling technologies for shaft parts, and boosting the commercialization of scientific and research findings on parts rolling technologies. The research team led by him has helped establish nearly three hundred parts rolling production lines in China, and eighteen lines were exported to the United States, Turkey and other countries. More than five hundred kinds of parts have been developed and put into production by his team, including shaft parts for automobiles and tractors, steel grinding balls and anode copper balls. These production lines have produced more than five million tons of parts. Prof. Hu has published more than 100 journal articles and 5 technical books in the field of parts rolling technologies, and been licensed more than 50 patents. Prof Hu has been granted 4 national awards and over 10 provincial and ministerial awards.
