In the northwest corner of the university of science and technology Beijing, there is no quiet campus, but more machine noise. Every morning, hu zhenghuan, a silver-haired academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a professor at the university of science and technology Beijing, walks into the national research and promotion center for efficient parts rolling to start his day.

Part rolling technology is a new technology of forming machine shaft, ball and other parts. Compared with traditional forging and cutting methods, it has the characteristics of high productivity, high material utilization and good parts performance.

This technology is unknown to most people, but it is relevant to everyone's life. Automobile, engine, motorcycle required shaft parts, ball mill, copper plating in the ball parts, there is a large number of market demand. Over the past 60 years, hu zhenghuan has been engaged in the research and application of rolling forming of shaft parts.

On the second floor of the research center, reporters saw various sizes of the shaft, ball samples were placed in the display cabinet. This is the high-quality sample that hu zhenghuan's team adjusted and rolled. Up to now, more than 500 kinds of shaft and ball parts have been developed and put into production by the research center, and the output has exceeded 5 million tons.

Not long after the founding of new China, the country lacked two things most: food and steel. In 1952, hu zhenghuan graduated from high school with the dream of becoming a powerful iron and steel nation. He was admitted to the newly established Beijing institute of iron and steel industry (the predecessor of Beijing university of science and technology). During his college years, hu zhenghuan was an excellent student and inquisitive. When the practice, he every day bubble in the factory workshop, contact steel production, became a glorious "steel boy".

In 1958, hu zhenghuan, who had been working in the school for less than two years, found a new technology of rolling steel balls recorded in foreign documents. Compared with the traditional forging method, it has more than 10 times higher productivity and better production environment. "This process will revolutionize the production of machine parts, from sheet and tube profiles that can only be made at the same section to sections that can also be made at different sections." Hu zhenghuan recalled to reporters.

With the strong support of the school, hu zhenghuan's team worked hard day and night, worked overtime, and completed the drawing design of the experimental mill in only 40 days, and processed the mill in about 60 days. After the installation of the machine, through repeated tests and debugging, before the National Day of 1958, "plop, plop", finally rolled out some steel balls. At the time, Guangming Daily and Beijing daily reported on the innovation.

"One percent of a good product produced in a lab is a sign of success, and one percent of a bad product produced in an industry is a sign of failure." Hu zhenghuan often tells students: "although both are one percent, they have completely different meanings." In the early stage of achievement transformation, when the small batch production was carried out on the laboratory rolling mill, the total number of steel balls was less than 100,000, and there were more than a dozen accidents on the equipment alone. Screws were broken, bearings were broken, axes were twisted, and even the machine was turned over.

The steel ball was rolled successfully in the laboratory and the production line was put into production smoothly. Subsequently, China's first self-designed and manufactured large inclined rolling mill was also successfully developed. Cross wedge rolling technology used in the field of deep processing of steel. In 1991, China became one of the few countries to master the high and new technology.

From laboratory research to industrial test, and then to industrial production, compared with other technology research and development, hu zhenghuan's team's scientific and technological achievements have been more and more widely transformed. Their research and development of shaft, ball products continue to exceed the international level of the same, domestic and foreign large enterprises to buy first. Only in the automobile manufacturing industry, applied to the red flag car input and output shaft products, its quality exceeds the production process of the Volkswagen factory in Germany; The United States ford motor factory to China also a large number of purchase by the wedge rolling technology production of car engine camshaft.

Even now, Mr. Hu often travels on business to inspect production and inspect product quality. Discuss with more customers the difficulties and key points of technology update.

In recent years, they promote more than 300 efficient green parts rolling lines in 27 provinces and cities, 18 of which have been exported to the United States, Russia, Japan, Turkey and other countries. Internationally initiated cross wedge rolling camshaft forming technology has been applied in all large diesel engine plants in China, with an annual output of about 7 million and annual material saving of more than 20,000 tons.

"Turning advanced parts manufacturing technology into productivity is my lifelong pursuit." Hu zhenghuan has his own experience, that is, the production and research and development should have a promotion team, a research and development base, a designated manufacturer of equipment. "Although it is hard to transform scientific research results, every progress will create social and economic benefits, and the hard work is worth it."

There is no end to technological innovation. Although he is 85 years old, hu zhenghuan is still hale and energetic. In the eyes of his friends, he has already reached the age to accompany his family and enjoy a leisurely life, but he always sticks to the front line of scientific research. "I feel more fulfilled and fulfilled at work," he admits.
